Local Business Feature: Woodlane Orchard
When Kookaburra Homes decided to start an initiative to support local businesses to produce video content for them, free of charge, we knew that Woodlane Orchard was a venture we wanted to have involved. We have previously worked with Woodlane Orchard as a market stallholder for our Monash 214 Display Home Open Day in June 2019, and as a local supplier at our Bridgehampton Display Home VIP night in December 2019, where our guests had the pleasure of tasting Woodlane Orchard’s chocolate covered dried fruit.
Owned by Mypolonga local Kelly Johnson, Woodlane Orchard is a fantastic example of a South Australian small business: a great idea, combined with the heart and soul of being local. In late 2018, Kelly noticed that so many local farmers were having to throw out huge amounts of fresh produce. Her premise is simple, yet effective: buy this surplus, seconds and marked produce from South Australian famers, particularly around the Mypolonga region, and turn it into an amazing array of delicious products: think dried fruit and fruit barks for snacks and cocktails, chocolate dipped dried fruit, soups… yum!
“We’ve been able to collect seconds produce that would otherwise go to waste and turn it into something that lasts a long time. Then any waste product goes back to the farmers to feed the animals.”
Wayne Goodwin, Kookaburra Homes Owner, was thrilled to get the chance to support Woodlane Orchard in this new initiative. He is a huge advocate for supporting small local businesses, as he believes that part of running a sustainable, successful business includes supporting the communities that support them. 2020 has been a challenging year for many businesses and providing media services and content completely free of charge, as well as a featuring them in our own marketing channels to boost their exposure, was a simple, yet effective strategy that Kookaburra Homes was keen to swiftly implement.
“This has given me a new platform to communicate to my current and future customers and the courage to take the next step in growing my SA Business. This local business support within my own community is a rare gift,” says Kelly Johnson of the initiative.
