Located in a stunning spot along the Murray River in South Australia, the Cahill Project is a beautifully designed and impeccably built home. One of Kookaburra Homes’ nominations for Lightweight Home of the Year in this year’s HIA Awards, this striking contemporary holiday home has been designed for summers spent on the river with lifestyle at the forefront of both the interior and exterior spaces. Kookaburra Homes have developed a strong reputation in building custom riverfront homes, and have extensive experience building homes that are perfectly suited to the conditions along the Murray River, and demonstrate time and time again that practicality and the constraints of a block do not mean having to sacrifice on style and design.

“We did our research before committing to a builder. Our empty block was an awkward shape with a council limit on how much of it we could build on, and it needed to be a pole frame home because of the Murray River flood guidelines. Kookaburra Homes’ reputation and customer feedback for any type of build was impressive but for our type of construction it was second to none,” say the home owners, Darren and Victoria.

Custom designed for our customer’s complex sloping block, this pole frame home maximises its surroundings perfectly through clever design, an innovative layout and smart features. The beautiful contemporary finishes complete this home, by creating a modern yet timeless space that will last a lifetime. With a beautiful front facade, James Hardie cladding and a Colorbond roof, this home has an immediate visual impact yet is perfectly suited to the relaxed South Australian river lifestyle, the front door opens up to an incredibly spacious, light and airy living, dining and kitchen area. Raked ceilings open up the home exponentially, with the main living area undoubtedly the hero of this room, extending out onto a generous balcony overlooking the river, complete with a deluxe outdoor kitchen.

The owners say they made the “perfect choice” by deciding to build with Kookaburra Homes. “From the design work with Dylan, to the selections process, and through the construction phase with Wayne, we were really impressed every step of the way. The speed in which the home was built was exactly to the original timeline, whilst the quality and attention to detail was that of a custom built home.”

This entertainers paradise includes a stunning contemporary kitchen with matte black floor-to-ceiling cabinetry with oak accents, matte black handles and tapware,  and a large white kitchen island with Caesarstone benchtops that seamlessly merges the kitchen into the white raked ceiling living and dining space which is flooded with natural light from the high windows and double sliding glass doors out onto the balcony.

This home boasts 5 spacious bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms and the master suite, complete with river views and a walk in robe, is more akin to one you would find in a contemporary family home rather than a holiday home. All the other bedrooms have built in wardrobes and are light and airy and thoughtfully located off the main living area.

The subfloor, which extends out to the riverfront by means of three large roller doors is fully enclosed and fitted out with a home gym, table tennis table and hot tub and has ample storage for watersport equipment.

Kookaburra Homes is proud to be the 2019 South Australian HIA Professional Medium Builder of the Year.
